It continually surprises and impresses me, in a good way. As a little background: I’ve used Linux at a moderate to advanced level for a few years now: I’ve never written a bash script longer than 6 lines and never hacked the kernel, but I’m not afraid of the command line and have no problems editing my xorg.conf, grub.conf or any other system files using nano. The command line is my friend, but I still like a GUI admin panel sometimes.

Tis the season…

Yup, it is that time again. The time when everybody looks back and things about what they have done in the last year. When everyone gets to relax. When everyone is filled with the spirit of happiness and brotherly love. When everyone can sit back and relax in what they have done well so far this year. So in this spirit I’d like to wish everyone a happy end-of-semester. For anyone in higher education this time of year is not marked by commercialism or religious holidays: it is marked by the passing of courses, the giving of grades and the knowledge that you have done a good job and that you have done the impossible: you have survived another semester.

YouTube videos with embedded Adsense?

This is old news, but for the first time in 6 or so months I signed into my adsense account. (I wanted to make sure that money that I’ve been owed for a year hasn’t magically reached the payout mark.) I looked around a little bit, and I considered updating the Google Adsense Widget with any changes, and I stumbled upon these new YouTube ad-enabled players. These may have been around for a year for all I know have been around since October, but I’ve never seen them and they are rather cool looking.

Wordsworth’s “Prelude”

In the few lines that make up a single scene of Wordsworth’s “Prelude”, the personified Nature encourages the young Wordsworth to steal a boat and admonishes him for failing to resist the urge. Although the young Wordsworth only focused on the method Nature used to correct him, the adult Wordsworth recognized the contradiction and believed that Nature used this event to guide him and help him understand and control his human desires, and, in the process, demonstrate that the relationship between an individual and nature is the same as that of parent and child.
