I have just activated “Use Default Commentform” module and selected “Use JQuery” in Ajax and Effects.
No other module is activated.

Ajax comment posting is working but the comment box is so narrow in width :(

please help !

Without seeing your theme, I believe it is a CSS issue. Anything like this can be changed by setting a width attribute in your css file for the textbox. (A google search will help with this.)
