Succumbed to the temptations of gold and glitter.
Posted on Friday the 9th of November, 2007 at 8:57 pm in PPPI finally did it, I thought long and hard and — even though I know I said I never would — I joined payperpost. Honestly, I’m doing it for the money: while this site doesn’t cost very much to run, the costs in man-hours is enormous, and it is hard to spend hours and days each week working on my various projects when there are bills to pay. I had hoped that donations would be enough to allow me to spend the necessary time creating plugins and programs for general use, but, even though I appreciate each one greatly no matter the size, donations are sporadic at best.
However, I do have my integrity, so I promise that sponsored posts will only be a means to an end on this website, and will never be so prominent as to remove the focus from the ideas that this website was founded on. To this end I have drafted a “declaration of intention” to ensure that I never overstep the bounds I have set for myself.
- Integrity — I will never lie on a post or recommend something that I do not honestly believe is useful.
- Greed — I will post no more than one sponsored post for every 5 “real” posts or no more than once a week whichever is greater.
- Transparency — Any posts that are sponsored will be clearly marked as such: they will have their own format and category to ensure their source is easily determined.
- Usefulness — Sponsored posts will always be on a topic that would be of interest to my normal readers: if it wouldn’t fit into a normal category, I won’t use it.
I have already rejected opportunities because they did not fit into these criteria, so don’t worry, I keep my promises. Oh, and this is a sponsored post, so that means some “real” posts are coming very soon.
