In part one I suggested a merit based system; this idea is complete and utter hogwash. It is not a money-less society; it is a tiger who tried to change its stripes. The problem with a money-less society is that you need away to control resources and reward those that do best without playing favorites. Here we should diverge from the topic at hand and take a look at the options.
Equality be it actual or economic comes in two forms. The first is equality of opportunity and the second is equality of outcome. While the former makes all people equal and then gives them the freedom to decide where to go from there, the later forces all people to be equal no matter what. Economic equality can be forced on people; theoretically the communistic government of the USSR was based in part on this idea. History has shown us that people resist being forcibly economically equalized; because, forced equality takes away personal freedom. In fact economists Milton and Rose Friedman argue that a society that places equality of outcome ahead of equality of opportunity will have neither equality nor opportunity, but if a society places opportunity first equality will follow. But what does this have to do with a money-less society you ask. Well quite simply you can’t force all people to be the same, and you can’t pretend that everyone wants the same things out of life. Therefore from a merit system–which changes nothing from a money economy–we will consider an allowance system.
This allowance system will break everything down into the amount of energy needed to create it. In developing it we would then need to calculate how much energy can be produced in a single year, and divide the majority of that amount between each man, woman and child. This will be the base level of each person’s allowance, but if they want more than the base amount they must spend extra time doing something that benefits society as a whole.
Let’s take a minute took look at the feasibility of this idea. For example, lets take the average American who in 2005 used 337 million BTU per person. (Source 1) If you compare this number to the 3000 BTU the average person must consume per year on an average diet, you have a (large) range of energy required for a person to live versus how much energy a person uses to live. Furthermore, through research we find that in 2003 a total of 421 quadrillion BTU were consumed throughout the world which has an estimated population of 6 billion. (Source 2) If we divide the total consumption by the total population we find that there is roughly 70 million BTU (500 gallons of fuel oil) consumed each year for every person of the world. While 70 million seems like a large number, it is about a third of the yearly consumption of an American in the year 1949. This number demonstrates that to even support the entire worlds population at the 1949 levels of expenditure we would need to increase energy production to 1.29 quintillion BTU per year or roughly 3 times current levels. What does this tell us? At the current levels of energy production it is impossible to have economic equality without sacrificing large portions of modern society. This means we must move ourselves away from reality and now must work entirely in a theoretical world.
In our theoretical world we can produce enough energy to comfortably sustain every person on the planet at a reasonable level of comfort. This is their allowance; it is provided for free to every person who works a certain number of hours per week regardless of their job. This energy is spendable on anything a person wants–if they want a larger house the energy that it costs to build it will come out of this amount–but once it is gone they will receive a “welfare” that provides enough energy for the bare minimum and can only be spent on basic necessities. So if a person is allowed to choose if they live like a king for a month or reasonably for a year. Also person will not get the next years allowance unless they have worked their required number of hours; this forces even people who are not motivated to do something with their lives and not just leech off of society. However, as with any group there will be people who are motivated and will put the extra effort in. These people are rewarded with extra allowance when they do things that help society such as get an education or volunteer.
To use the old example of the doctor and the athlete from Part I. The doctor and the athlete on a year by year basis get the same allowance as each other and everyone else. However, as the doctor continues his education he is given an added amount to his allowance for that year. Once the doctor has finished his training he then reverts back to the normal allowance until he again does something extra that benefits society. Similarly, the athlete will be given a normal allowance for training and competing, but once he advances far enough that he wins competitions more than the average athlete he is given a…[remainder of this article has been corrupted]
I have finally found the part 2 of the essay. I think, what we have failed to mention is the reward of our Creator – God. If you do good, He will reward you in this world and much more in the hereafter.
What have been discussed so far is the material world, without considering the spiritual world, which is the final destiny of everyone of us. That’s why any discussion is incomplete if we talk only of material world, and not the second part of our life, the hereafter.
For example, If I can discover a way to mass produce a certain thing for the benefit of mankind, God will naturally reward me immensely in this world, whether anyone likes it or not, and much more reward in the hereafter. Remember the saying: “The more you give, the more you receive.” This is natural. It is not anyone who is rewarding you but the God Who controls everything. Besides, if you do good to any man, tendency is that they will also respect you and give you whatever they can give to you in return. If I can produce cars, others can produce other goods, I give them a car, then they will give me their produce in return. Mass production is available now – e.g., nanotechnology. There is no need of money.
If you are lazy enough to do only a meager work, you think you can gain respect? NO. You think others will oblige to give you more? NO. Unless there is much surplus, then lazy people can get what they want through the kindness of some smart people. But in the hereafter, you think God will reward those who fill their bellies here in this world with the sweat of others? NO. You think God will reward those kind and generous people with eternal bliss in the hereafter? YES, definitely.
Therefore, the reward of those who do good here in this world CAN be achieved right here in this world, and much more in the hereafter. For those who work less in this world, can get less also from this world, and much less in the hereafter. And those who do evil, the reward is also evil.
Dear Ali,
Good and bad are only relative to our present existence, and it is only to be used as a point of reference IMO. ie, without darkness, we wouldn’t know what light is, without the bad, we have no reference point to what or how good good is. God is everything including both good and the bad, who else could have created such dichotomy.
Life is nothing but a game, the game is carried out by the ‘all knowingness’ or the ‘total consciousness’ (most people call it GOD) whom wanted to experience itself ‘consciousnessly’, so it divided itself into all the dimensions and universes that we are now experiencing. We are the cells of this total consciousness so to speak, just like the cells in our body, passing their experiences back to our brain/mind, so that we are able to experience our senses of our physical body. The game of life is going from total consciousness into total unconsciousness, then from these fragments of unconscious slowly finding it’s path or ways back into the complete ‘knowingness’ once more.
From birth most of us are indoctrinated by fear and that our natural abilities are suppressed with this belief system. Since there is nothing outside ‘all that is’ or GOD, then we must be part of it, we must also possess the same abilities. And because we are not aware or not been told, then we naturally will limit ourself because of the limited mindset. If we could accept and begin to access our greater abilities/mindset, then we can all begin to use our faculties which are inherited in each of us.
I know GOD will not punish me for being frank, nor reward me for being so either.
For our limited awareness/consciousness, we are only able to exist in the moment of ‘NOW’, we do not have the past as this is merely a memory, we do not have the future, because it has not yet arrive.
All we can do is to enjoy the moment of ‘NOW’ and play this game of ‘LIFE’
Love and Peace to you and all here!
Thank you for your comment, 6. Actually, we look at life as only a sport – a game. That is what Allah said in the Holy Qur’an – that we tend to view life as mere sport or triviality. But if we really ponder upon the objective of creation, that is not so. The creation of man is more noble than we supposed to be. Life is not a jest. Otherwise, we will go to hell if we will not use our thinking, or reasoning. Remember that reasoning/thinking is the only difference we have from animals, right? And Islam has given us a very lofty philosophy that we can delve at. Islam is a vast ocean of philosphy – made for the happiness of man. Try it and you will surely love it, just as many “white men” had already discovered, like Cat Stevens, and many others. Islam is the only ideology/religion/philosophy that can unite mankind. This is the only solution to our problems, that is why the Zionist bankers hate it so much. I hope you know about the International Bankers and who they are.
The answer to the problem of lazy people…….. is universal compassion – LOVE.
At present, most people separate others to the self because we are still working with our lower survival instinct animal nature, once a moneyless society is established. The need for such low instinct are no longer required, thus I believe we will then to develop our higher spiritual nature which has been in denied.
As said in the Zeitgeist movement presentation, and experiences from friends and family, more and more people are offering their time for free to help those who are less fortunate. In the US alone, some 20 billion hours have been given by such kind and loving minded people.
Instead of only being kind to our immediate family and friends, we should go beyond our circle of compassion and love all people on this planet, this would be the base for the moneyless society. True love/compassion do not ask for anything in return, hence also I believe GOD would not demand us to give anything back, it is fair to say man created GOD with his own image.
I for one would not mind to work in the next new moneyless society for the greater good, I’m sure lots of others would agree and would do the same.
I believe the moneyless society is a possibility, because we all possess this magical power in each and every single one of us, only need to be discovered.
Love and Peace.

sory i really dont understang u.
How about developement in lazyness
working of unconscious thaughts, processing in free time?
is that lazy?
why do you need a reward system?
Wasnt money about people working more efficient under pressure?
With the current economic depression, more and more people are waking up and printing money.
Printing money is in fact the simplest way to defy lawless governments who issue UNLIMITED FREE MONEY for themselves.
As money becomes abundant, it will self-obsolete to give way to a world without money which bases on resources.
Without the limits of money, won’t the rewards be self-actualization of art and science?
