Goodbye Gnome, Hello Fluxbox.

I installed Fluxbox a while back, and played around with it enough to decide that I do–kinda–like it and to start customizing enough that it would be usuable in the event I decided to switch.

Well in an exactly duplicate of what pushed me to move from Windows to Linux, Gnome decided to crash for no real reason (the first time in years) and it wouldn’t start up, so I switched my default session to Fluxbox, and spent a day or so customizing it enough to make it perfect.

I kinda know what caused the crash ( something involving the gnome theme manager), but everything works the same as it used to and Fluxbox has my computer running faster than it has in a long time, so I like Fluxbox enough that I don’t think I’ll worry too much about fixing it.

I love Fluxbox! I just tried it and it starts in 1.5 seconds! GNOME is about 10 seconds..can you smell bloat.

Well I’m kinda drifting back to gnome so I can use Compiz Fusion. At first it seemed that I preferred the minimalist enviroment, but I really enjoy the eye-candy of Compiz.

However, I did bring most of my Fluxbox habits with me. I still use Conky, a minimalist toolbar, and I never put anything on my desktop.
