Sneak Peeks Widget

Updated June 23 2007 — added WP 2.2 Support, removed 2.0 support, added ability to restrict sneak peeks to specific categories.

The Sneak Peaks widget allows you to list some of the upcoming posts on your site to allow visitors to get a glimpse of what is coming and encourage them to return. The widget is very simple, but allows you to customize the title, number of posts shown and the display text of each sneak peek using some simple tags.

You can download it here:
Sneak Peaks Widget 1.7 (WordPress 2.1+)
Sneak Peaks Widget 1.6 (WordPress 2.0, 2.1)

Installation is very simple. Just unzip the .zip file and upload the .php file to your plugins/widgets folder. Activate it in your plugins menu and then go to your Presentation>Sidebar Widgets menu and customize to your heart’s content.

Sidebar Calculator Widget

This widget is a fully functional non-scientific calculator created entirely out of javascript, absolutely positioned divs and a nice background image. However, as nice as it is there are a few problems with it. Firstly, because I wanted it to be like a real calculator and display only what you are currently typing (as opposed to displaying the entire equation) it can –albeit rarely — just mess up. I tried a lot of combinations but I haven’t found any new bugs; however, I’m sure there are some left over. If you happen to find out what is causing them I would greatly appreciate it if you were to let me know. The second problem is that it is a side bar calculator…how many people need to access a calculator while reading a blog? The third problem is: as always this was made in and for Firefox; other lesser equipped browsers may not allow it to function properly.

Other than that as features, well just look at the picture below or try the demo on the side bar (although that won’t be there long). Every button you see works.
As a note though, the MR button records whatever is on the display, M+ and M- scroll through old saved values and MC clears them all. The values are stored on a cookie so it will work between sessions. Oh and the text you see under the display is customizable.

Google Adsense Widget

After 24 grueling hours slaving over a hot computer, I have completed the Max Adsense widget to make the process of adding ads easier than counting all the money you’re sure to reap. The widget is made is such a way that everything you can do in the Google Adsense control panel (except anything that requires being saved such as saving channels, pallets etc.) is built directly into the widget. It evens has a wonderful (if I do say so myself) color picker to make it even easier to design your ads and alows up to 4 widgets*. If the widget is popular I may even add a few more features such as a dynamic example ad etc. However, the widget does not make referral buttons, there are too many of each kind to add into one little widget.
Screen shot (click thumbnail to see larger image, although it is still scaled down):

All it requires is a Google Adsense account and the widgets plugin for wordpress.
To Install:

  • Unzip max_ad.zip.
  • Copy the two files in the max_ad folder into your plugins > widgets directory.
  • Activate the widget in your control panel.
  • The only thing else you need is your publisher id from google. It can be found in top line of any of your old Google ad codes and looks like pub-23456765434

Other than that most of it should be self explanatory. But feel free to ask any questions.

*Thanks to Otto for making his execphp widget which I heavily borrowed code from to allow multiple widgets.

Change log:
6/27/06: Fixed a bug where the javascript in multiple ad widgets would only effect the first widget.

Ultimate Tag Warrior Widget

Yes, this is kinda outside the normal content on this site, but my site, my rules.
Anyway for those of you that have WordPress websites, the widget plugin and the Ultimate Tag Warrior plugin this widget will allow you to display your tags in the side bar similar to the way they do on my site. The widget allows you to change the title, list style, list order and the number of tags displayed. Colors etc are still controlled in the UTW control menu.
Installation is simple. Download UTW Display Tags Widget and then just unzip the archive, upload the php file to your plugins > widgets directory and activate it in your plugins menu. A bright and shiny new widget.

Change Log:
6/30/2006 – Fixed a bg that kept IE from displaying the control menu correctly.
