How poor! For such a complex notion as intelligence!
No quotation, no reference, no author...
And no definition of what is this concept of "intelligence".
Neither of what is "primitive", which is less and less used to describe a society.
A lack of rigor as well to put together " enslavement" "primitive" again without giving any definition or context.
There is no intelligence without a representation of the world.
And no concept of intelligence without this taken in consideration first.

And just to end, after a thought given to Levi Strauss, going to the supermarket without having to wonder how the food got there and how you get to the supermarket maybe less stimulating for the brain than having to locate the fruits in the forest!

Just had a discussion with a friend about the definition of "primitive" cultures in relationship to the Avatar movie.

In his review, he had referred to the Na'vi as primitive and I asked him who was really acting like a primitive in that movie.

At first he countered by saying his definition of primitive referred to their use (or lack) of technology. But then I pointed out that their use and understanding of the bio-neural network on Pandora far exceeded our own abilties.

This then would lead us to discuss the definition of technology.

So I picked up a stick and hit him.
Guess I'm the primitive.

I think it would be important to define intelligence. Depending on the definition, either side of this argument could be right. If I defined intelligence by the ability to develop technology, then more technologically advanced societies are more intelligent. If I defined intelligence by the ability to adapt, then everybody is intelligent. As it is, I do not know what you are saying.
